thinking about the ivantill my clematis cover again. specifically ivan’s recitation of mizi’s monologue, simply because i think it actually gives us a good idea of what some of their conversations were like. it really feels like they could’ve just been sitting in silence when ivan started rambling about gods.

ivan says the beginning of what is obviously going to be a lengthy spiel. till (almost offhandedly) tells him to shut up. ivan continues like till didn’t intervene, and till just sighs and gives up. till reacts and comments while ivan talks, showing that he’s actively listening and paying attention even when he’s outwardly annoyed. ivan is in his own little world as he rambles and stares at till.

i really like that till notices ivan staring and (presumably) getting physically closer to him, while ivan just. continues. like he doesn’t really register that till notices. it makes me wonder how much till paid attention to ivan throughout their lives that ivan didn’t realize because it wasn’t the exact kind of attention he wanted (similar to how till didn’t notice ivan’s feelings because he didn’t display love the way he was used to…).
